Hluboka Castle was rebuilt in the spirit of the romantic English Gothic style, based on the royal Windsor Castle. It was the wish of the countess Elizabeth Schwarzenberg, who was invited in 1837 to Queen Victoria's coronation in England, where she had the opportunity to see the royal castle. After her arrival at Hluboka, she persuaded her husband to reconstruct their palace into the castle seen in Windsor. It is a rare example of English architecture in Bohemia. Inside, there are magnificent collections of furniture, tapestries, porcelain, paintings and weapons. In particular, it is worth taking note of all the wood details. It is one of the wealthiest and most beautiful Czech castles, visited by thousands of tourists each year.

Hluboka nad Vltavou History
Hluboká nad Vltavou is a town in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, near České Budějovice. This town was a favourite of Charles IV, who often visited when residing in České Budějovice. It is best known for its famous Windsor style chateau. The original royal castle of Přemysl Otakar II from the second half of the 13th century was rebuilt at the end of the 16th century by the Lords of Hradec. It received its present appearance under Count Jan Adam of Schwarzenberg. According to the English Windsor example, architects F. Beer and F. Deworetzky built a Romantic Neo-Gothic chateau surrounded by a large English park (1.9 km²) here in the years 1841 to 1871. The castle is opened to public. There is a winter garden and riding-hall where the Southern Bohemian gallery exhibitions have been housed since 1956. The castle has been used in a scene of Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson's 'Shanghai Knights'.
The city also hosts the renowned Townshend International School which, within a little more than 10 years, brought together in this village students from many diverse corners of the earth. (read more)
