Free Tour Description

T he first part of the tour will start in the Old Town Square, and give you a general introduction of the beautiful city of Prague. You will be left with no choice but to admire and commend the composition of the aged and ancient buildings and churches while at the same time also becoming familiar with the life of the Czech reformer Jan Hus.

S mall and labyrinthine lanes will take you back to Prague’s past: Mozart‘s Don Giovanni in the Estates Theatre, Karolinum – the Charles University since 1348, the cubist house of the Black Madonna and the medieval courtyard of Ungelt. If time permits, you can also visit the Powder Gate and the majestic art nouveau building of the Municipal House.

N ext stop: the Jewish Quarter, where you can experience its tragic history. Here you will learn about the destiny of the Jews in Prague, who lived behind the walls of the former ghetto. You will also visit the Old-New-Synagogue, the Old Jewish Cemetery and the Jewish Museum; visit the birthplace of the infamous Golem and retrace the footsteps of the famous Jewish writer Franz Kafka.

A fterwards you will go to the Marianske Square, which will mark the end of the first half of the walking tour. You will have a 30-minute break from 12:45 to 1:15 pm, during which you can sit down and relax and decide if you want to continue the tour or come back for the second half the next day.

T he second half of the tour starts with the beautiful baroque library of the Klementinum. Then, crossing the Charles Bridge, you will get to the real "open gallery under the sky" and be awed by the peaceful, tiny Kampa Island. Then,  you will set your sights upon the graffiti on Lennon Wall before finally arriving at the Lesser Town Square, which the great St. Nicholas Church highlights. A brief visit to St. Nicholas Church will be followed by a 200-step climb to the Hradcanske Square. It is here that you will reach Prague Castle, which is one of the biggest fortresses in all of Europe. Here you will find the Schwarzenberg Palace, Archbishop’s Palace, Old Royal Palace, the Basilica of St. George, and the greatest architectural treasure of all – St. Vitus Cathedral – all in this ‘city within the city’. The tour will finally conclude next to the Old Royal Palace, where you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the beautiful city of Prague – the city of a hundred spires.
