A Mining Town on the Ohře
Sokolov lies on the Ohře river in West Bohemia, about 16 km south-west of Karlovy Vary. Until 1948 it was called Falknov nad Ohří, in German Falkenau. The town grew as the centre of the Sokolov Basin, where lignite is mined, and mining still shapes the landscape around it. Former pits are being flooded: Lake Michal on the eastern edge of town is already used for recreation, and the much larger Lake Medard lies to the west.
In the centre, Sokolov Castle houses a museum of mining and local history, and the Church of St James rises above the streets. Loket, with its medieval castle on a bend of the Ohře, and the spa town of Karlovy Vary are both close by. Whether you are coming for work or to visit family, a private transfer takes you from Prague Airport to your door in about 1½ hours.

Waiting Charge
If the driver waits for you or you book a multi-stop transfer, for example while you visit one city before continuing to another, a waiting charge is added to your fare.
Minivan Special Offer
Many airport taxis take only three passengers and may not fit large bags in a sedan. We take groups of up to four passengers with their luggage in a larger vehicle at a special price: choose “Minivan” (4 seats) when you book online. The offer does not apply to groups of five or more, who travel by minibus at the standard price.
FAQs: Transfers Between Prague and Sokolov
From Prague Centre it is about 145 km, which usually takes around 1 hour 50 minutes. From Prague Airport it is about 140 km and around 1½ hours. Rush hour in Prague can add some time.
No. Loket is about 10 km from Sokolov. You can book a transfer straight to Loket, or add it as a stop on your way to Sokolov and your driver waits while you visit the castle.
Yes. Book both journeys together and you get 10% off the return trip. We can take you back to Prague Centre or straight to Prague Airport.
Yes. We drive between Prague and Sokolov in both directions. If your transfer does not start in Prague, you must pay for it in full in advance.
Yes. All our drivers speak English as well as their native Czech, and some speak other languages too. They are happy to talk about local culture, share tips on places of interest and answer your questions.
Yes. Short stops along the way are free. If you stop for longer, a waiting charge is added to your fare.
For a group of three to six passengers on a longer trip, with plenty of luggage, we recommend our minivan. For up to two passengers with large bags, or three with medium-sized bags, a sedan is the better choice and gives you a more comfortable ride. Not sure? Send us your details and our support team will recommend the best vehicle.
Let us know in advance and we will send a roomier minivan instead of the sedan, for the sedan price.
Yes to both. Baby seats are required by law, and for your baby’s safety we provide them free of charge.
The price we quote is final: there are no extra fees for our services or for short stops. Waiting charges for optional longer stops are not included. You will have no surprises or additional fees.
