A Walled Medieval Town
Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a small town in the Franconia region of Bavaria, high above the valley of the River Tauber. Its medieval centre, ringed by town walls with towers and gates, has survived remarkably intact, and it is one of the best-known stops on the Romantic Road. You can walk a long stretch of the walls along their covered walkway.
The Plönlein, a small square where the street forks between two gate towers, is the town's most famous view. Climb the Town Hall tower for the view over the red roofs, and see Tilman Riemenschneider's carved Holy Blood Altar in St James's Church. In December the old town fills with a Christmas market. By car you go door to door, without changing trains on the way.

Stopover Tip
Nuremberg, with its castle and old town, is right on the way, about an hour from Rothenburg. Add it as a stop and your driver waits while you look around.

Waiting Charge
If the driver waits for you or you book a multi-stop transfer, for example while you visit one city before continuing to another, a waiting charge is added to your fare.
Minivan Special Offer
Many airport taxis take only three passengers and may not fit large bags in a sedan. We take groups of up to four passengers with their luggage in a larger vehicle at a special price: choose “Minivan” (4 seats) when you book online. The offer does not apply to groups of five or more, who travel by minibus at the standard price.

Yes. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is the medieval town in Bavaria. There is also a smaller Rothenburg in Upper Lusatia, in Saxony, so check the full name when you book.
You can, but with about four hours' drive each way it makes a very long day, and longer stops have a waiting charge. It is often easier to stay a night, or to visit Rothenburg on the way to somewhere further west.
