The Town Below Neuschwanstein Castle
Füssen is a small town on the River Lech in the Allgäu, at the foot of the Alps and close to the Austrian border. It marks the southern end of the Romantic Road. Its old town is overlooked by the High Castle, once a residence of the prince-bishops of Augsburg, and by the baroque buildings of the former St Mang's Abbey.
Most visitors come for Neuschwanstein Castle, built for King Ludwig II of Bavaria from 1869, which stands in Schwangau, a few kilometres from the town. Next to it is Hohenschwangau Castle, where Ludwig spent much of his childhood. Inside, Neuschwanstein can only be seen on a guided tour with a timed ticket. A private transfer takes you from Prague straight to your hotel.
Worth Seeing
- Neuschwanstein Castle and the view from Mary's Bridge
- Hohenschwangau Castle and the Alpsee lake
- The High Castle above Füssen's old town
- The former St Mang's Abbey
- The Forggensee lake north of the town
Stopover Tip
Regensburg, a UNESCO-listed medieval town on the Danube, is on the way from Prague. Add it as a stop and your driver waits while you look around.
Fares, waiting and larger groups
We Offer Three Fares
Waiting Charge
If the driver waits for you or you book a multi-stop transfer, for example while you visit one city before continuing to another, a waiting charge is added to your fare.
Minivan Special Offer
Many airport taxis take only three passengers and may not fit large bags in a sedan. We take groups of up to four passengers with their luggage in a larger vehicle at a special price: choose “Minivan” (4 seats) when you book online. The offer does not apply to groups of five or more, who travel by minibus at the standard price.
FAQs: Transfers Between Prague and Füssen
From Prague Centre it is about 505 km, which usually takes around 5 hours. From Prague Airport it is about 500 km and a similar time. Rush hour in Prague and holiday traffic in summer can add some time.
We can take you to Hohenschwangau, the village below the castles, where the ticket centre is. Private cars cannot drive up to Neuschwanstein itself, so from the village you walk up the hill or take the shuttle bus or a horse-drawn carriage for most of the way.
You can, but with about five hours' drive each way it makes a very long day, and longer stops have a waiting charge. It is usually easier to stay a night in Füssen. Book your castle tickets online before you travel, as tours often sell out in summer.

Yes. All our drivers speak English as well as their native Czech, and some speak other languages too. They are happy to talk about local culture, share tips on places of interest and answer your questions.
Yes. Short stops along the way are free. If you stop for longer, a waiting charge is added to your fare.
For a group of three to six passengers on a longer trip, with plenty of luggage, we recommend our minivan. For up to two passengers with large bags, or three with medium-sized bags, a sedan is the better choice and gives you a more comfortable ride. Not sure? Send us your details and our support team will recommend the best vehicle.
Let us know in advance and we will send a roomier minivan instead of the sedan, for the sedan price.
Yes to both. Baby seats are required by law, and for your baby’s safety we provide them free of charge.
The price we quote is final: there are no extra fees for our services or for short stops. Waiting charges for optional longer stops are not included. You will have no surprises or additional fees.
